I’m Tom, I’m a 36 year old dad of 3 from Cannock, Staffordshire. I have worked in accountancy since I left school aged 17, and qualified as a Management Accountant in 2018.
I joined i2r UK as a Commercial Business Partner 18 months ago, in 2023. My role within the business entails looking at the profitability of i2r’s customers and market segments, assisting the commercial team with pricing and creating new busines proposals.
What do you like and what stimulates you most about your job?
I enjoy working in the finance department as it allows me to see all aspects of the business, from research and development through to operations and sales. I enjoy assisting the various departments of the business, and producing analysis that enables people to look at things in different ways and helps drive the company forward. I also enjoys working with my colleagues and have built some strong relationships since joining the company.
During your career within our Group, how has your experience been? Have you experienced many changes and how have you found these have impacted you?
Since joining i2r there has been a lot of change in a short space of time but I feel this has lead to many exciting opportunities to keep the business on a strong footing for the future.
What are your hopes for your future at i2r?
My hopes for my future at i2r are that I continue to improve. I am someone who is always in competition with myself to get better everyday! I hope to become someone in the business that people can rely on, that others feel they can come to when they need to get results.
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Three words I would use to describe myself are; Calm, patient, optimistic.
What do you love to do in your spare time?
Outside of life at work, I love to spend time with my family. I hold a season ticket for my local football team – Hednesford Town FC so attend matches there regularly. I also enjoy going to the gym and competing in Cross Fit. I like to relax by reading fictional books and playing video games.
What is your favourite book/movie/series and why?
My favourite book is the Discworld series by Terry Pratchet. I like how the author uses a very unrealistic fantasy setting to make fun and satirise the real world!
If you were to go back to the beginning of your career, what advice would you give to you from the past?
The advice I would give my younger self starting out in my career is, not to be so hard on yourself. And try to stress less about exams!
