Semi rigid packaging combines the benefits of rigid packaging with some of the advantages of flexibles. Aluminium is one of the most versatile materials used in this field thanks to its properties: barrier effect, impermeability, good mechanical properties.

Approximately 75% of European aluminium foil is used for packaging: rigid, semi-rigid and flexible. In particular, in Italy, semi-rigid packaging represents 30% of aluminium packaging on the market (50% of rigid packaging, 20% of flexible packaging).
What are the products that make up this sector? Trays, platters, tubes, wine bottle capsules and screw caps.
Containers and trays are usually used to pack, store and transport food; they can be both used for domestic use and food industry. Tubes are mainly used in the pharmaceutical, food and cosmetics sectors, to pack creams and high density liquids where control of the delivery system is important. Wine bottle capsules, on the contrary, are used to preserve the closures of still and sparkling wine; while screw caps are used in the beverage industry to close spirits or liquor bottles, and to seal different types of tubes in other sectors.
